Strictly speaking, there is no law which stops a mother from taking her son to attend a wedding, as long as the child is returned to his paternal home within a reasonable period of time - say, a few days. Neither the mother, nor can any of her relatives be charged with any criminal act for doing so.
It must be mentioned that depending on other circumstances, taking the son away for a brief period of time despite opposition by the father may be presented as cruelty by the father. Cruelty is a ground of divorce.
